Indonesia Open 2018: PV Sindhu, HS Prannoy Advance To Quarter-Finals

PV Sindhu celebrated her 23rd birthday with a win over Japan's Aya Ohori, while HS Prannoy defeated Wang Tzu Wei of Chinese Taipei to enter the quarterfinals of the Indonesia Open on Thursday.

Sindhu dominated the game 21-17 21-14 score and ended the game in just 36 minutes in the women's singles match. Both the players have met five times in which Sindhu has thrashed the Japanese in all the games. The birthday girl's victory booked her spot in the semi-finals against China's He Bingjiao.

Sindhu started well with 10-8 and a 16-12 lead in the first clash and continued to do the same in the second clash with a 17-8 lead which let her win easily.

HS Prannoy tasted victory over Wang took him to the quarter-finals. He defeated Wang 21-23 21-15 21-13 in an amusing men's singles one hour encounter. He will face Shi Yuqi of China in the quarter-final clash.

Sameer Verma failed to take on world No 1 Viktor Axelsen, being defeated 15-21, 14-21.

Saina Nehwal lost to world's no.5 Chen Yufei 18-21 15-21 in a match that lasted for 40 minutes. Saina thrashed Chen at the same stadium during Indonesia Masters early this year.
