Indian national Under-20 team outplayed 6-time World cup champion Argentina with a scoreline of 2-1 in the COTIF Cup 2018 in Valencia, Spain, on Monday. Indian boys registered an emphatic win despite being reduced to 10 men in a pulsating contest.

It was a historic day for Indian football as the Indian U-16 national team defeated reigning Asian Unde-16 champion Iraq by a solitary goal at the WAFF U-16 Championship in Amman, Jordan.

Deepak Tangri and Anwar Ali shone for India as the duo scored goals for India in the 4th and 68th minute respectively.

An error between the posts by Leonardo Diaz gave India the lead in only the fourth minute of the game. Argentina's No. 1 flapped at a Deepak Tangri header from a corner kick into his own net.

Indian boys were dealt a blow when Aniket Jadhav was given his marching orders in the 50th minute of the match. As a result, the Indian U-20 side was reduced to 10 men in the 54th minute.

However, Anwar Ali assured that Indian team can win the match even with a 10-man team as the men in blue took the lead through a brilliantly struck free-kick taken by Anwar Ali in the 68th minute of the match that hit the inside of the woodwork before nestling in the Argentine goal.

India held on their nerves to safeguard their one-goal lead with a scoreline of 2-1 and found themselves lucky enough to maintain it till the end as an Argentine attempt late into the five-minute injury time came off the crossbar.

India created history on Spanish soil by registering a hard-fought victory.

Speaking to media, Indian U-20 coach Floyd Pinto said, "This victory will definitely earn Indian Football more respect in the world of football. It opens up a window of opportunity to test ourselves against the best in the world on a regular basis."

He further added, "It's unbelievable! I am a very proud Indian today. This win is a testament to the efforts and belief of the All India Football Federation in moving forward towards developing the youth of the country"
