Indian Olympic Association Names Neeraj Chopra As India’s Flag-Bearer At Asian Games 2018

Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president Narinder Batra has announced on Friday that Indian ace javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra will be the flag-bearer of the Indian contingent during the opening ceremony of the upcoming Asian Games to be held on August 18.

The IOA president made the announcement during the send-off ceremony organised for the Indian contingent.  

The Asian Games will be starting from August 18 to September 2 in the Indonesian cities of Jakarta and Palembang.

Neeraj Chopra, who won the gold medal in Commonwealth Games 2018 event in Gold Coast is one of the brightest young athletes in the country. Fans and the entire nation will hope that their favourite star will bag a medal during the mega event later this month.

Neeraj had also won the gold medal in the Asian Athletic championships in 2017 with a throw of 85.23 meters. He had also bagged a gold in the 2016 IAAF World U-20 Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland.

Earlier this year, the young Indian managed to bag the gold at the South Asian Games and Savo Games as well.

Former Indian Hockey captain Sardar Singh was India’s flag-bearer at the 2014 Asian Games.

Indian athletes grabbed 57 medals in the previous Asian games held at Incheon, South Korea which include 11 gold, 10 silver and 36 bronze medals.
