CWG 2018: Indian Men’s Table Tennis Team Emulate Their Women Counterpart, Win Gold Medal

A day after the glorious feat of the Indian women’s table tennis team who stopped Singapore fifth successive gold medal, the men’s team didn’t lag behind as they dominated the Nigerian opposition in the final at Commonwealth Games 2018 on Monday. They won the tie by 3-0.

Leading the way was the experienced Achanta Sharath Kamal who beat Bode Abiodun 4-11, 11-5, 11-4, 11-9, before the top-ranked Indian paddler Sathiyan Gnanasekaran dispatched Segun Toriola 10-12, 11-3, 11-3, 11-4 to put India up 2-0,

Pairing up with Harmeet Desai in the men's doubles category soon after, Sathiyan confirmed India's gold medal with an 11-8, 11-5, 11-3 win over Abiodin and Olajide Omotayo.

The women’s table tennis contingent made the nation proud on Sunday as they snapped the Singaporean dominance in women’s table tennis and won India’s first gold medal in table tennis at the Commonwealth Games.
