Indian Golfer Gaganjeet Bhullar grabbed his maiden European Tour title on Sunday with an impressive chip in eagle in the 17th hole for a one-stroke win over a charged Aussie Anthony Quayle at the Fiji International Championship.

Moving in the final round, Bhullar stood firm against the intense pressure as he holed a monstrous chip from outside the green for an eagle-three at the 17th to head into the last hole with a one-shot advantage over Quayle.

He calmly parred the last hole to turn in a six-under 66 for a four-day total of 14-under 274, which took him past Australian Quayle and crowned Bhullar his 1st win on the European Tour at Natadola Bay Championship Golf Course.

It was Bhullar's 9th Asian Tour title and 10th crown overall, he has now become the most successful Indian player on Asian Tour, leaving behind the tally of eight tour wins by Arjun Atwal and Jyoti Randhawa.

He is also the first Indian to win on Australasia Tour and also became 5th from the country to win European Tour after Atwal, Jeev Milkha Singh (4), SSP Chawrasia (4) and Anirban Lahiri (2).

Speaking to media, Bhullar Singh over Quayle impressive final round said, “To be honest, I was mentally prepared for that”.

He also said, “I knew somebody or another had to go low today. Even Ernie Els, he's a legend, he was playing really well".

Bhullar Singh further added, “I still had hopes, I still had kind of a feeling that I can still win the tournament, but I think that chip‑in on No.17, that pretty much closed the deal.”

The Indian golfer revealed that he had a similar shot in Friday’s second round, “To be honest, I was in pretty much the same situation, same place on day two and the flag was pretty much on the same side of the green.”
