After locking horns in the 3-match Test series, India and South Africa will play the 6-match One-day International series from Thursday in Durban. While men in blue are super-confident about their hold on the limited series format, the rival team has an added weight on their shoulders.

With AB de Villiers being ruled out of the first three ODIs against India due to his finger injury, South African batsmen will be needed to bring in their A-game to the ground for scoring respectable score against the visiting team in the latter's favourite format.

Notably, selectors are not looking for any replacement for de Villiers reducing the squad to 14. The step will likely provide Khaya Zondo with a chance to make an official ODI debut. During the third Test against India, the batsman sustained the injury to his right index finger.

Medical experts have suggested that AB de Villiers will take close to two weeks for complete recovery. The time frame suggests that after missing the first three matches, the player will return for the 4th ODI at the Wanderers, for which he is one of the ambassadors.

Despite South Africa in a fix, India can't relax due to their past ODI record at Durban. In seven ODIs against South Africa at the venue, the visiting team has lost six with one having no-result. India did beat England and Kenya here though but South Africa's case is still doubtful.

Both the teams are looking at this ODI series as their pathway to 2019 World Cup and have selected their respective teams tactfully. While India has a greater chance at winnings the series under Virat Kohli's captaincy, South Africa's triumphant performance in Test proved that they can't be taken lightly.
