India Vs England: R Ashwin Suffers Minor Injury Ahead of 1st Test

Indian ace spinner Ravichandran Ashwin on Thursday suffered a minor injury ahead of the first Test between India and England at Edgbaston, starting from August 1.  

R Ashwin was hit on the right hand during the net session and as a result of that, off-spinner did not participate on the 2nd day of the ongoing three-day practice game against Essex.

However, the Indian team management informed that the physio and medical team had checked Ashwin’s condition and deduced that it was only a minor injury.

During the lunch break on Thursday, Ashwin did get a bowling session in the nets, which meant good news for the Indian camp.

Indian spinners may play a very crucial role in the 5-match Test series against England, with Kuldeep Yadav taking centre-stage during the limited overs series. It would be interesting that between Ashwin and Jadeja who will get a chance to play in the playing XI.

However, former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly came out in support of Ashwin and said that the spinner cannot be allowed to fade away so easily.

Ganguly further added that Ashwin had a really good Test record and he “deserves a lot more opportunities".

Speaking to Cricbuzz, Ganguly said "You can't let Ashwin fade away so quickly, because 300 wickets is not a matter of joke”.

Former Indian captain went on to praise Ashwin and said, "Ashwin has a place in the side. He will reinvent himself because he feels challenged, he knows Kuldeep is up for his Test spot. You saw the leg spin in the IPL, he will get better and he deserves a lot more opportunities”.
