India Coach Ravi Shastri Insists Team Playing ODI, T20I Series Will Help In World Cup Preparation

India coach Ravi Shastri insists that the cricket team’s tour of England in July will help them prepare better for the ODI World Cup in 2019 as they can better gauge the conditions and work towards building the team.

India begin their tour of England in July with three Twenty20 internationals and three One-Day Internationals. They then take on the hosts in a five-Test series starting in August.

“We will be there (in England) almost a month before the first test match. That gives us that much more time (to prepare),” Shastri said.

“What our boys did in South Africa makes me proud as a coach because there were 21 days of cricket and on each one of those 21 days, India competed,” Shastri added.

“The one-day series we won after 25 years. And so, from a coach’s point of view, you have to just stand up and say ‘well done, guys. Simply magnificent. You have raised the bar’.”

India who will be high on confidence and a comprehensive 5-1 series win against South Africa away from home.

However, their record in England has always been subpar. Virat Kohli and Co will be looking to exploit this opportunity and make use of the conditions to understand the team’s strength and weaknesses a year before the World Cup begins.
