ICC ODI Player Rankings: Kohli Remains On The Top Spot, Rohit Sharma Climbs To No.2

Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan after their dominant performance in Asia Cup climbed up significantly in the latest MRF Tyres ICC ODI Player Rankings which were released on Sunday.

Rohit Sharma, who was the stand-in captain for India led his team to the 7th Asia Cup title, in the absence of Virat Kohli, jumped up two spots to reach his career-best 2nd position.

With the latest rankings released the top two places are now both filled by Indian batsmen, with Kohli regaining the top spot. This was for the second time that Sharma is in the second position, having first reached number two in July this year. He aggregated 317 runs in the tournament, which India won by beating Bangladesh in the final by three wickets.

Shikhar Dhawan, who was the highest run-getter in the tournament with 342 runs, gained four slots to reach the fifth position.

Another India player to gain in the rankings tally was spinner Kuldeep Yadav the left-arm spinner jumped up three spots, to reach his career-best 3rd position, as he finished the tournament as the joint-highest wicket-taker along with Bangladesh seamer Mustafizur Rahman and Afghanistan’s leggie Rashid Khan with 10 wickets each.

Another significant rise in ICC rankings was Rashid Khan who has displaced former Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan from the top of the all-rounders’ list. He became the 1st Afghan player and 32nd overall to reach the top position in the list with a jump of six places.
