Indian pacer Mohammed Shami's estranged wife Hasin Jahan has filed a domestic violence case against him and others in the Alipore court in Kolkata on Tuesday. She had earlier pressed charges of domestic violence under Section 498A along with other charges on Shami and four others.

"The court case has been filed under The Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005. It's a plea for interim maintenance of Hasin Jahan and her daughter," The Republic quoted a source. Jahan had earlier claimed that she was unable to withdraw money from her account.

Shami has apparently, issued instructions to the bank for stopping payments to his wife. Notably, the estranged couple completed four years of marriage on Monday, to celebrate which, Shami posted a cake's picture on social media with the caption, "4th Marriage anniversary cake for my Bebo (his daughter) miss you."

With Shami's personal life in turmoil, there were expectations that the player might back out of the Indian Premier League. Despite multiple attempts by Jahan of getting him barred from the IPL, the determined bowler played for Delhi Daredevils (DD) against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP)  on Sunday.

Jahan had accused Shami of infidelity and domestic assault. She had also accused the player of match-fixing. However, the Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) freed the player of all match-fixing allegations and eventually awarded him a Grade B contract.
