Indian pacer Mohammed Shami's estranged wife Hasin Jahan has demanded Rs 10 lakhs monthly maintenance from the cricketer for bearing her and their daughter Aairah's expenses. She has filed a petition at a Kolkata court for seeking the amount.

Jahan had filed a case under Domestic Violence Act 2005 against Shami and his family in the Alipore court in Kolkata on Tuesday. Hearing the case, a third judicial magistrate has asked the bowler and others to be present before the court within 15 days.

They need to mark their presence for receiving the summons and give their versions in the case. Jahan’s lawyer, Zakir Hussain said, "We approached the court of the additional chief judicial magistrate who sent us to the court of the third judicial magistrate for a quick hearing."

"The magistrate heard our petition and passed an order show-causing the opposite party asking why an ex-parte order would not be passed against them if they don't appear before the court within 15 days of receipt of the summons. The next date of hearing is May 4," he added.

Hasin has filed the case against Shami, his mother Anjuman Ara Begum, his sister Sabina Anjum, his brother Md Hasib Ahamed and Hasib’s wife Shama Parveen, same people against whom she has lodged a police complaint on March 8 at Jadavpur police station under various sections.

The lawyer clarified, "This case is different from the one we had filed before the police. Shami had not paid a single penny to Jahan since she had raised the issue. He had given her an Rs 1lakh cheque that later bounced. Now she has no money to pay for the monthly expenses."

Hussain specified that since Shami earns around Rs 100 crores annually, providing Rs 10 lakhs for his wife and child shouldn't be an issue. "It is his duty to take care of the family and pay for the wife and child’s expenses. Hence we demanded the money — Rs 7 lakh per month for Jahan and Rs 3 lakh per month for the child," he affirmed.

Hasin has also sought protection against being forced out from her Jadavpur apartment and assurance of child custody in the petition. Despite multiple attempts by Jahan of getting him barred from the IPL, Shami played for Delhi Daredevils (DD) against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP)  on Sunday.

Jahan had accused Shami of infidelity and domestic assault. She had also accused the player of match-fixing. However, the Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) freed the player of all match-fixing allegations and eventually awarded him a Grade B contract.

We don't know who is right and who is wrong in such cases so it is important that a settlement to be made between the two so that the kids can continue to live in the same standard as before otherwise men with money will keep moving from one to another.
