Croatia smashed England 2-1 in the last semi-final of the FIFA World Cup 2018. Croatia will now face France in the finals of the biggest tournament of the sport.

England made an electric start with Kieran Trippier's early goal and for a large period of the game looked good value to book their passage to the final for the first time since 1966.

Croatia rallied and gave England's back three more of an examination upon the start of the second period, eventually restoring parity, Ivan Perisic provided a clever finish in the 68th minute. Perisic met Sime Vrsaljko's deep cross with a flying left-footed finish.

Harry Kane's golden touch deserted him when he missed a great chance to double their lead while Jesse Lingard also wasted a chance by shooting wide.

Croatia kept their focus and Mandzukic struck in the 109th minute and thereby ending the Three Lions’ road to lifting the trophy. England will now play against Belgium for the third place at the world tournament

Kieran Trippier’s goal after four minutes and 44 seconds was the fastest goal scored in a World Cup semi-final since 1958. England scored most goals (nine goals) from set pieces at the 2018 World Cup
