FIFA manager Gianni Infantino said on Thursday that Russia was is well prepared to host the World Cup and expressed gratitude toward Rusian President Vladimir Putin for his sense of duty regarding the football show-stopper.

Infantino met Putin in the Black Sea resort of Sochi as Russia races against the clock to put finishing touches on preparations for the June 14 - July 15.

The first World Cup arranged in eastern Europe will be the most costly ever and comes in the heat of flaring pressures between Russia and the West.

However, he sounded a sterner note while talking about the Russian group's prospects once the tournament starts.

"We all very much hope that our players will commit themselves to the game, will give all they got, playing to their full potential, And the most important thing, they must show hard-nosed, uncompromising football, one which the fans love," said Putin.

The FIFA World Cup starts from June 14, with host country Russia taking on Saudi Arabia.
