Russia thrashed Saudi Arabia '5-0' in the opening match of the FIFA World Cup 2018. The hosts could not have wished for a better start to FIFA World Cup

A delightful performance by Aleksandr Golovin and Denis Cheryshev guided the Russian team to the win.

Russia team came into a problem when an apparent hamstring injury occurred to midfielder Alan Dzagoev. But the substitute Cheryshev took up the charge and scored goals in the later phase of the game.

After a lavish opening ceremony and the presence of President Vladimir Putin, it took merely twelve minutes for the Russian squad to break the deadlock and set the stadium on fire.

The crowd was on their feet as Yury Gazinsky hit the first goal in 12th minute of the first game of the tournament. Yury Gazinsky found the net rising at the back post after an outstanding cross from his teammate Golovin.

Russia’s second, third and fourth strikes were all by substitutes in which Denis Cheryshev struck twice. Artem Dzuyba netted a third before terrific late efforts from Cheryshev and Aleksandr Golovin wrapped up the game with the fifth strike Russia's win in the opener.
