FIFA 2018: Iceland's Performance To Decide The Fate Of Argentina

| June 23 , 2018 , 13:53 IST

The 2018 World Cup has not been so good for Argentina as the two-time world champions and 2014 runner-ups are on the edge of an early exit from the tournament. After a draw in the opening match, Argentina needed to step up in the next game but they were slammed 3-0 by Croatia on Thursday.

However the two-time title winners Argentina are still in the run to qualify for the knockout. Their qualification will depend on the left group stage games for group D. Argentina will have to win the match against Nigeria that too with a good goal difference and hope that Iceland either lose or draw against Croatia. If Iceland wins over Croatia then the result will depend on the Goal Difference.

This edition of FIFA World Cup has been unpredictable even before it started. Some of the giants like Italy and Netherlands were not able to qualify for the tournament. Italy failed to qualify for the first time since 1958. The three-time World Cup Finalist in 1974, 1978 and 2010 Netherlands also missed on Russia for the tournament.

The knockout Phase will commence on June 30. Russia, Uruguay, France, Croatia have already qualified for the knockout.
