FIFA 2018: Iceland Draws '1-1' Against Argentina In Group Stage Encounter

The Iceland and Argentina match of the FIFA World Cup group stage resulted in a 1-1 draw.

Debutants Iceland stunned the football fans limiting the strong Argentinan team to a goal resulting in 1-1 tie in the group C match played at Spartak Stadium, Moscow.

The first breakthrough came in the 19th minute when Argentain agression Sergio Aguero posted the ball in the net to give his team 1-0 lead.

Iceland replied soon as Alfred Finnbogason made history by scoring first ever goal for his country.


Hannes Halldorsson’s performance was just splendorous as he saved seven goals. He became the hero when he saved the penalty strike by the legend Messi in the second half.

The 30-year-old superstar too regretted the missed opportunity, "It hurts to have missed the penalty because it would've been the decisive advantage," disappointed Messi said after the match.  He believed that the strike could have led his team to first win in the tournament.

 Argentinian team dominated the match with their accurate performance in the terms of technique.  With a possession percentage of 72 and a pass accuracy of 92 percent but could not send the ball past the nets after the goal fired by Finnbogason in the first half.

Argentina will face Croatia and Iceland will face Nigeria in the next group stage encounter.
