| June 27 , 2018 , 17:02 IST

Defending Champions Germany will go against South Korea in the final group F contest to qualify for the round of 16. All the four teams are still in the race to qualify for the knockout phase.

Germany is at the second position with three points from two games, whereas South Korea is at last spot in Group F with two losses in the tournament, but they can still advance to the Round of 16.

If South Korea beats Germany and Sweden loses to Mexico, the knockout results will be decided by the goal difference.

FIFA World cup follows an interesting trend in terms of the champions and their performance in the next edition. The Winners in the previous editions were not able to crack knockout phase. The 2006 winner Italy ended last in the group stage of 2010 World Cup. Similarly, the Spanish team won the 2010 title but was eliminated in the group stage in 2014.

Germany, which has never been eliminated in the group stage is in a difficult situation at the 2018 FIFA World Cup with the threat of an early exit.

German forward Marco Reus is confident that his team can defeat the Korea Republic in the Germans crucial final group game.

Marco in an interview to FIFA TV said, "I was so excited about being part of this. Although we obviously didn’t imagine starting with the kind of result we had against Mexico, that’s just the way it is sometimes."

"The Sweden match showed that we have the right mentality and character when it matters," he further added.
