FIFA 2018 Day 9: Brazil, Switzerland Taste Victory, Nigerian Hopes Still Alive

Brazil and Switzerland defeated Costa Rica and Serbia respectively on the day 9 of FIFA 2018 on Friday, Nigeria also came up with their first win at the World Cup against the debutants Iceland.


In the opening match of day 9 Brazil grabbed a last minute 2-0 victory over Costa Rica at St. Petersburg Stadium, further ruling them out of the tournament. Philippe Coutinho and Neymar posted the ball into the nets in the stoppage time sending their team on the top of Group E.

Nigeria won their first match, 2-0, over the debutants Iceland at the Volgograd Arena. Nigeria's win brought a good news for Argentina, as they can still qualify for the round of 16 if they win in their last group stage match. Ahmed Musa was the hero of the game who came alive after the first half and struck both the goals for his side.

While in the third match Switzerland defeated Serbia 2-1. Serbia bossed the first-half, Aleksandar Mitrovic sent the ball behind the net in the fifth minute of the game. The Swiss side came back with a thunderous equalizer in the second half, when Arsenal midfielder squashed Switzerland's image as the side lacking in attacking before he rattled the ball into the net from 25 Yard. Xherdan Shaqiri last-minute strike wrapped up the game for Serbia.
