Croatia and France made their way to the round 16 after they defeated Argentina and Peru respectively on the day 8 of the FIFA World Cup 2018. Although, Denmark and Australia had to satisfy themselves with a draw.

Croatia played commendably well as they slammed Argentina 3-0. All the eyes were on Messi after he missed a free-kick in the last match. Both the teams were not able to send the ball into the nets in the first half. Willy Caballero was punished for his blunder by Ante Rebic in style when he opened the score for his side in the 53rd minute. The left hopes of an Argentina comeback expunged when Luka Modric and Ivan Rakitic rounded off a 3-0 win to book Croatia's spot in the last 16.

Australia and Denmark finished with a draw and both the teams have chances to move forward in the last 16. Australian captain Mile Jedinak slotted his second penalty at World Cup which helped Australia to draw the level to the opponents.

In group C, France was fortunate in their 2-1 opening win over Australia and they had slices of luck again at the Ekaterinburg Arena on Thursday. The 19-year-old Kylian Mbappe became the youngest player to score for France at a World Cup. His goal helped France to secure their win over Peru and make their way to the round of 16.
