FA Cup: Manchester United Face Tottenham, Chelsea Tackle Southampton In Semi Final Ties

| April 21 , 2018 , 14:52 IST

Manchester United will face Tottenham Hotspur in the semi-final of the FA Cup on Saturday at the Wembley Stadium. Chelsea will play Southampton FC in the second semi-final on Sunday.

With the Premier League title already gone to their neighbours in Manchester City, United has only got this competition to win a major trophy this season. Even though they were second placed, the gulf between the two teams was significant enough for City to claim the title with five games to go.

Manager Jose Mourinho already made his United squad aware that even though they are only fighting for a single trophy this season complacency will not be factored in team selection and he will drop the big name players if required.

Tottenham Hotspur, on the other hand, must have fulfilled their target for the season as their fourth position finish sitting behind City, United and Liverpool would be acceptable for the board.

Mauricio Pochettino has transformed Spurs into a winning outfit and will be looking to motivate his team into believing the realistic chance they possess to win a silverware this season.

Meanwhile, Chelsea who won the Premier League in 2016/17 under their current manager Antonio Conte have suffered another setback of a season as they are stranded in the fifth position in the league. An FA Cup trophy would not be enough to salvage a disappointing season but would help Conte’s cause of retaining his job.

Relegation-threatened Southampton are the fourth team in the semi-final of this year's FA Cup. Having changed their manager, Southampton have suffered all season long this season but have been remarkably clinical in FA Cup. Their match against Chelsea on Sunday will be intriguing as the two teams are on the same spectrum of thinking.
