This is the first CWG medal for 26 years old Aware, who in 2011 won gold at the Commonwealth Championships and an Asian Championships bronze. India’s medal tally stands at 28.

In a gripping final bout against Canada's Steven Takahashi, Aware won 15-7 despite struggling with injury in the latter half. After showing visible discomfort while on his back, Aware roared back with a very strong second round and defeated Takahashi.

Babita, who was a gold medallist at 2014 Games and a silver medalist in 2010 Games just fell short of capturing another spot on top of the podium against Canada’s Diana Weicker and settled for silver.
