CWG 2018: Wrestler Bajrang Punia Wins Gold Medal In Men's 65kg Category

Yet another Indian wrestler has made the nation proud as Bajrang Punia won a gold medal in 65 kg weight category in the Commonwealth Games 2018 at Gold Coast on Friday.

This medal takes India’s Gold Medal tally to 17.

It took the 23-year-old wrestler hailing from Khudan, Haryana barely two minutes to overpower his Wales opponent in Kane Charig to win the match by a scoreline of 10:0.

He had previously won a gold medal in the 61kg weight class at the Glasgow Games in 2014.

He is also a winner of a gold medal in 65kg freestyle wrestling at the Asian Wrestling Championship in New Delhi, last year.

He has joined the ranks of Sushil Kumar and Rahul Aware in an elite list of Gold Medalist Indian athletes for CWG 2018.

Meanwhile, Pooja Dhandha had to settle for a silver medal as she lost a competitive match against the defending champion in the 58kg category, Odunayo Adekuoroye of Nigeria on Friday.

Divya Kakran also increased India’s medal tally as she won a bronze medal in the 68kg category.
