Adding another gold to India's tally, weightlifter Venkat Rahul Ragala displayed a winsome momentum on the day 3 of Commonwealth Games 2018 and lifted a combined weight of 338 kg (151 kg + 187 kg) winning the 85kg weightlifting competition.

With his historic victory, Ragala has become the first India to win a gold in the 85 kg category. In the first attempt, the South Indian lifted 151 kg snatch and went on to lift 187 kg in a clean jerk beating Samoa's Don Opeloge to gold after both failed the third attempt.

Defending champion from Glasgow Commonwealth Games Richard Patterson failed to lift 143kg in three attempts in the snatch. Other competitors were also unable to move past Rahul's brilliant lifting technique. His little gesture of touching his coach's feet after winning proclaimed his roots.

RV Rahul has earlier been the youth Commonwealth champion as well. Ragala hails from a small village Stuartpuram with a youth Commonwealth champion as his brother. Seems like sports run in their blood as Ragala's father is a Kabaddi player.

India has now won a total of six medals in 2018 commonwealth games - 4 Gold, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze. Earlier today, weightlifter Satish Kumar Shivalingam won India's third gold in the men's 77kg weightlifting category at  Australia's Gold Coast.
