CWG 2018: Seema Punia Wins Silver In Discus Throw, Gaurav Solanki In Men’s 52kg Boxing Final

Seema Punia, India’s woman discus thrower clinched the silver medal in the Commonwealth Games 2018 at Gold Coast on Thursday.

Her compatriot Navjeet Dhillon won the bronze medal in the same event.

In the first attempt, Seema successfully got past the 60-metre mark with her best throw of 60.41m to bag silver. This is her fourth successive podium finish in this event at the Games, following silver in 2006 and 2014, and a bronze at home in Delhi in 2010.

Meanwhile, three Indian boxers Amit Panghal, Gaurav Solanki and Manish Kaushik entered the finals of their respective categories on Friday.

Amit outclassed Juma Miiro of Uganda by a unanimous 5:0 verdict in the semi-finals of the men's light flyweight (49kg) category.

Kaushik got the better of James McGivern of Northern Ireland in a tough, tactical battle in the men's lightweight (60kg) semi-finals.

Star Indian javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra on Friday qualified for the finals of his event. He will be accompanied by his compatriot Vipin Kasana.

The 2014 Gold Medalist Squash duo of Dipika Pallikal and Joshna Chinnapa enter the semi-final of women’s doubles on Friday.

The pair used their experience to register a fantastic come-from-behind 2-1 (7-11, 11-5, 11-9) win over Canada's Samantha Cornett and Nikki Todd in the quarter-final. They will face England in their semi-final tie on Saturday.
