CWG 2018: Manika Batra Creates History, Wins Gold Medal In Women’s Table Tennis Singles

Indian table tennis player Manika Batra has created history as she becomes the first Indian woman to win a gold medal in a women’s singles event at the Commonwealth Games.

She achieved this feat on Saturday at the Gold Coast 2018 Games, beating Singapore’s Mengyu Yu in straight games.

This is the 22-year-old player’s second gold at CWG 2018 and her third medal overall. She had previously won a gold medal in the mixed team event while fell short with her partner Mouma Das in the final.

Manika who is the highest ranked table tennis player in the country made her way into the final by beating the top-seed and world number 4 Tianwei Feng of Singapore in a thrilling five-set contest.

India has 24 Gold Medals at CWG 2018 and 55 in total reaffirming its status as the third-ranked team in the Games.
