CWG 2018: Jitu Rai Smashes Games Record To Clinch Gold Medal In Men’s 10m Air Pistol

India shooter Jitu Rai broke the games record in men’s 10m air pistol and won the Gold Medal at Commonwealth Games 2018 by a landslide on Monday. This is India’s eighth Gold Medal at Gold Coast.

Jitu Rai who is also a World Championship silver medalist, shot 235.1 to comfortably finish top of the podium.

Om Prakash Mitharwal bagged bronze in the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast on Monday.

Last month, the young Indian shooter had combined with Manu Bhaker to claim the mixed team air pistol gold in the ISSF World Cup in Guadalajara, Mexico.

And he displayed that form on Monday as well, en route to creating a new qualification record. He competed well in the finals too but came up short against a rampaging Rai, a winner of multiple gold medals in top global events.

Earlier, the weightlifting contingent of India won another medal as Pardeep Singh won the silver medal in the 105kg category on Monday. He was whiskers away from clinching the Gold Medal from Samoa's Sanele Mao.

The 23-year-old attempted a games record of lifting 211kg lift but was unable to pull off.

India has won 17 medals in total till date at CWG 2018.
