Young Indian shooter Anish Bhanwala won India’s 16th Gold Medal at the Commonwealth Games 2018 in Gold Coast on Friday.

Anish, who is 15-years-old made history on true fronts, by breaking the games record in men’s 25m rapid pistol event and also by becoming the youngest ever Indian medal winner in CWG history.

Australia's Sergei Evglevski bagged the silver with a score of 28 while Sam Gowin of England took home the bronze, shooting a total score of 17.

Anish’s compatriot Neeraj Kumar finished fifth and was eliminated in the second round.

Anish started with perfect scores in the first two series of Stage 1, Neeraj was left sweating with a less than impressive outing in Stage 1.

Neeraj did improve a little by the time Stage 2 - the elimination phase started. He leapfrogged Muhammad Khalil Akhtar of Pakistan into fifth place to avoid being the first shooter to be eliminated.

Indian shooting contingent who won the recently concluded ISSF Shooting World Cup in Mexico were expected to win the majority of events based on the strength of the roster; experienced veterans amalgamated with the exuberance of youth.
