Indian cricket team’s Test specialist Cheteshwar Pujara on Thursday smashed his first ever T20 century against Railways in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy 2019 at the Holkar Cricket Stadium, Indore.

Pujara, who came in to bat as an opener, carried his bat through to scored 100 off just 61 balls. The right-hander now becomes the first batsman to score a century in a T20 match for Saurashtra.

Pujara scored 14 fours and one six as he scored his runs with a strike rate of 163.93. Saurashtra got off to a perfect start when their wicketkeeper-batsman Harvik Desai and Cheteshwar Pujara added 85 runs for the opening stand.

Desai scored a good knock of 34 runs off just 24 balls with the help of six fours. Pujara, who had completed his half-century in 29 balls, was then well supported Robin Uthappa, who has moved from Karnataka in 2017, as they added 82 runs for the second wicket and took the team beyond the 150 run mark.

Although Pujara’s career strike rate in T20s is just 105, he showed a different aspect of his game today, as he scored with a strike rate of 164.

Pujara was snubbed by Indian Premier League franchises for the fifth straight year but the India batsman is making a mark in the shortest format of the game as well.

Dubbed as a Test specialist, Pujara hasn't been able to enjoy the glitz and glamour that surrounds the IPL and, as expected, found no takers in January's auction in Jaipur.
