2010 Commonwealth Games Gold Medalist Manoj Kumar displayed a comprehensive performance as he thrashed his Nigerian opponent Osita Umeh by winning all five rounds in a unanimous decision on Thursday.

The decorated boxer dominated from the start, using the technique of keeping his guard down, and kept drawing Umeh towards himself at the Oxenford Studios here.

The first round witnessed Manoj using a few heavy right arm jabs to which the 19-year-old Nigerian hardly had any reply and it seemed like the 31-year-old Indian isn't far from advancing to the next round.

Umeh started the second round with some good counter-punching, but Manoj used all his experience to block and keep his defense up.

Towards the end, it turned out to be an easy outing for the 2016 South Asian Games gold medallist Indian.

Earlier, the women’s hockey and cyclists team faltered in their first event at the Gold Coast games.

The hockey team suffered a shock at the hands of Wales as they were defeated by a scoreline of 3-2. This is the first time that World No.10 India have lost to Wales, who are placed 26th in the world rankings in a major tournament.

Meanwhile, the men cyclists had a disappointing qualifier having finished seventh. The women team too had a similar outing as they took an appalling last spot after the Canadian team were disqualified.
