Merely a week in hand before the first One Day International (ODI) against Australia, the Board of Control for Cricket of India (BCCI) has announced the team for the first three matches of the series.

As expected, the control body didn't make major changes in the squad that whitewashed Sri Lanka in the recent tournament that included three tests, five ODIs and one T-20.

BCCI, on Sunday, announced the team through a tweet:

The team includes the leading duo Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma as captain and vice-captain respectively, along with Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul, Manish Pandey, Kedar Jadhav, Ajinkya Rahane, MS Dhoni (wicket keeper), Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Shami.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Sunday rested star spinners Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin on the basis of rotation policy and recalled pacers Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Shami to the 16-man squad for the first-three One-Day International (ODI) against Australia scheduled from September 17.

All-India Senior Selection Committee Chairman MSK Prasad, commenting on the squad selection said, "The team for the three ODIs against Australia has been selected in line with the rotation policy of the board and accordingly R. Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja have been rested."

"The team's performance during the Sri Lanka tour was outstanding and players like Axar Patel and Yuzvendra Chahal, who performed very well, are being given an extended run and this will, in turn, supplement our approach, to build a strong reserve strength, as we prepare for forthcoming tours," he added.

While the selected team has seen striker Yuvraj Singh continuing his rest for another series, fast bowling duo Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav, who had missed the Sri Lanka series due to the rotation, have saved a place in this one.

India hosting the Kangaroo nation (Australia) will face the country in Chennai, Kolkata, and Indore for the first three matches respectively.
