The Board of Control for Cricket on Saturday announced a 15-member Indian cricket squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against the Windies. Virat Kohli will lead the Indian team after being rested from the recently concluded Asia Cup 2018 in UAE.

There was no place in the Test squad for the opener Shikhar Dhawan, who struggled in the Tests against England. Prithvi Shaw and Mayank Agarwal have been included in the squad while fast bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar have been rested.

In fact, Mayank Agarwal made a well-played 90 for Board President’s XI in the warm-up game against West Indies at Vadodara on Saturday.

Murali Vijay, who has been in impressive form in county cricket for Essex after being dropped after a wretched run in the first three Tests in England, hasn’t been again dropped by the selectors.

Fast bowler Ishant Sharma and all-rounder Hardik Pandya were not considered for selection, as they are yet to recover from their injuries.

According to media reports, BCCI in a statement said, "Taking stock of the recent workload, the selectors have decided to rest Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Both Ishant Sharma and Hardik Pandya were not considered for selection as they are yet to recover from their injuries,"

There were also few concerns over the fitness of captain Virat Kohli & star off-spinner R Ashwin too, but both have been declared fit. Most of the batting unit that did duty in England has kept its places with Hanuma Vihari, who made a battling half-century on his debut at the Oval in the final Test, preferred to Karun Nair, who was in the original squad for England.

Mohammad Siraj has been awarded as his maiden call-up all because of his eye-catching spells of late, including an effort of 8/59 for India A vs Australia A in Bengaluru recently.

The first Test will be played at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Rajkot from October 4-8, followed by the second Test at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad from October 12-16.
