Badminton: PV Sindhu Beats Gregoria Mariska To Enter Thailand Open Final

Indian Ace Shuttler and Olympics silver medallist PV Sindhu on Saturday progressed into the finals of the Thailand Open by defeating Gregoria Mariska Tunjung of Indonesia.

Sindhu won 23-21, 16-21, 21-9 against Tunjung to continue her unbeaten run in Bangkok in the match that lasted an hour.

Prior to Saturday’s match, Sindhu had faced the Indonesian twice and it was the Sindhu who won. With this win on Saturday, Sindhu took her head to head lead to 3-0 against the teenager.

The Indonesian fought hard before forfeiting it at the halfway mark. Tunjung was quick with his smashes and was good using his skills, But after a hard-fought battle, Sindhu finally managed to take lead in the game with 23-21.

In the second game, Indonesian started same as the first one and lagged behind in the initial points. However, she staged a brilliant comeback and went on the win the game in 21 minutes.

 In the third and the final game, Sindhu owned aggressive style of playing and didn’t give Indonesian teenager a chance to get away. She eventually won the game 21-9 and thereby booked the finals of the BWF World Tour Super 500 tournament.

Up next Sindhu will now face Nozomi Okuhara, the reigning world champion from Japan, in the final on Sunday.
