The ODI series between Australia and South Africa started off in a dramatic manner for the hosts. As the Proteas successfully sealed a 6-wicket win over Aussies with 124 balls to spare in the 1st ODI, held at Perth, on Sunday.

Batting first Australia's top order again failed to capitalize the home conditions on a lively pitch and only managed to score 152-runs on board in 38 overs.

The Proteas lost 4-wickets while chasing and successfully achieved the total of 153 runs in 29 overs.

Man of the match Dale Steyn set things in motion by grabbing the wickets of Travis Head and D'Arcy Shorts paving the way for his fellow fast bowlers to unleash on the hapless Australian batting.

Lungi Ngidi was also exceptional, finishing with 2-26 while Andile Phehlukwayo broke Australia's middle order to pieces to finish with 3-33.

Australia's total of 152 was never going to be enough and despite a three-wicket effort from Marcus Stoinis, Australia were well and truly outplayed.

Quinton de Kock top-scored in South Africa's run chase, hitting 47 from 40, while Hendricks played a patient knock – scoring 44 from 74.

Aidan Markram also looked impressive during his innings of 36 runs from 32 balls.
