All-around cricketer Arjun Tendulkar was named in India’s U-19 squad on Thursday for the upcoming tour in Sri Lanka. Indian under-19 team is up for two four-day and five one-day matches against Sri Lanka in July. The 18-year-old is a left-arm medium pacer and a left-hand batsman.

The youngster will play two four day matches for the side led by Delhi wicketkeeper-batsman Anuj Rawat.

Arjun was in headlines with a sparkling debut in the Spirit of Cricket Global Challenge in Australia. Arjun attracted the selectors when he shined with a splendorous all-round performance against Hong Kong Cricket Club in a match at Bradman Oval. He played a fast knock of 48 runs of 27 deliveries as an opener and picked up four wickets in four over.

The youngster had impressed recently in the Cooch Behar Under-19 Trophy. He took 18 wickets overall with an average of 25.22 for Mumbai. Arjun also bowled in the India nets during the home series against New Zealand last year.

After a sparkling performance in the match, Arjun said, “I used to play taekwondo, cricket football, swimming and somehow cricket kicked in and everything else took a back seat.”

He also told that “He loved bowling fast from childhood.”

While most of the aspiring cricketers quote his father Sachin Tendulkar as their role model, Arjun counts Australian Mitchell Starc and English all-rounder Ben Stokes as his role models.
