Argentina defeated India 1-0 in the semifinal of the Hockey World League to enter the finals.

Argentinean striker Gonzalo Peillat scored the first goal of the match, converting a penalty corner into a perfect game in the opening quarter of the game.

Rain created havoc and change the playing conditions that did not suit team India.

The second quarter too was dominated by Argentina and team India struggled for ball possession. No goals were scored in the second quarter. Argentina had 72%% ball possession at the end of second quarter.

India got a penalty corner in the 36th minute of the game but Indian hopes of an equalizer were dusted by a brilliant save by the Argentinean Goalkeeper.  India improved its ball possession in the third quarter but there was no change in the scoreboard.

The last ten minutes of the game saw repeated and aggressive attempts from India with Akashdeep and Gurjant Singh hitting the ball at the goalpost in the 51st and 52nd minutes of the game. However, both the attempts were short of success.

Interestingly India was the only team to beat eventual Olympic Gold medal winners Argentina at Rio 2016.

The second semifinal will be played between Germany and Australia tomorrow. India will play the losers of the second semifinal for the bronze medal on Sunday.
