Archery World Cup: Deepika Kumari Qualifies For The Finals In Salt Lake World Cup

Indian archer Deepika Kumari on Monday won gold at the women’s recurve event of the Salt Lake World Cup and paved her way to Turkey for the Finals after beating Germany’s Michelle Kroppen 7-3.

Deepika had earlier won one gold medal in 2012 and four silver medals in the years 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2015 of the tournament.

The Indian archer started off better with a 2-0 lead in the match with 29 out of 30 points. However, the points were split in the second round.

The German archer was making her individual debut in the finals arena, and won the third set and tied the match at 3-3. Deepika then took the fourth and fifth sets with a score of 29 and 27, over Michelle's pair of 26s and won the match by 7-3.

The 24-year-old said, "Finally! That’s what I said when I won this gold medal. Do I feel relieved to qualify? Yes and no. I’m not expecting anything, at the moment I’m just enjoying my game, I want to enjoy my game”

India ended fourth in the medal standings, with a gold, silver and bronze each in the penultimate stage of the World Cup.

The Archery World Cup Final will be held in Turkey on September 29 and 30.
