India's legendary wicket-keeper and former Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni on this day (i.e. 2nd December) way back in 2005 made his Test debut for the Men in Blue against Sri Lanka at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

However, it was not the greatest of debuts as the test match was a rain-affected game that ended in a draw.

Dhoni's test debut came just after a year of his ODI debut which came against Bangladesh on December 01, 2004.

It is learnt that the first 3 days were washed out and the game only started on Day 4. Batting first, India were dismissed merely for 167 with Chaminda Vaas grabbing four wickets. The debutant scored 30-runs in the game, which included six boundaries before he was dismissed by leg-spinner Malinga Bandara.

Sri Lanka in response scored 168 for four before the conclusion of the game, with Mahela Jayawardene top-scored for the visitors with 71. MS Dhoni also took one catch in the game, in the process of dismissing the left-handed batsman Avishka Gunawardene.

The cricket world had witnessed former Captain's stay for 90 Tests, which also witnessed team India becoming the No.1 in the world ranking for the very first time.

Dhoni had scored 4876 runs with the highest score of 224 which came at an average of 38.04. He had 33 half-centuries and six centuries to his name.

Dhoni played his final Test in 2014 against Australia in Melbourne and shocked entire world while announcing his retirement after the game. He handed over the reins to Virat Kohli who has led the side ever since.
