India Open 2018: PV Sindhu Defeats Intanon To Storm In Finals Against Zhang Beiwen

Defending Champion PV Sindhu Beated third seed Ratchanok Intanton of Thailand in straight games on Saturday to book her spot in the final clash of the India Open super 500. Sindhu played such exquisite badminton which left former world champion of Thailand shellshocked.

Intanton, who led Sindhu 4-2 in the head-to-head contest before the tie, raced to 2-0 early in the first game and was on 3-1 when the contest took a sharp turn. Suddenly, Sindhu changed gear and totally outclassed Intanton in next few minutes. sindhu won ten consecutive points to take the 11-3 lead at the mid-game break.

Sindhu extended the lead to 13-3 before Intanton finally able to win a point and made it 4-13. But the game has moved on from the hand of the 22-year-old Intanton as Sindhu won it 21-13 comfortably in 20 minutes. The second game started on even keel and the duo exchanged points regularly to be 5-5, but Sindhu wrapped the game at 21-15 in the end. With that, sandhu defeated Intanton and entered Finals of the Tournament.

However, most of the Indian shuttlers crashed out before disappointing performances. Kidambi Srikanth, HS Prannoy, B Sai Praneeth, Saina Nehwal, Parupalli Kashyap, Ashwini Ponnappa and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy couldn't reach the semi-finals of the event.

Sindhu will need to be watchful against Zhang, although she leads their head-to-head 2-1, she has lost to the World No 11 in three games on the last occasion that the two met — at the Indonesia Open in June 2017.
