WhatsApp Limits Message Forwarding To 5 Chats At A Time, After Social Media Rumours Trigger Lynching

The worldwide used social network Whatsapp on Thursday said that they said they will limit message forwarding to only 5 chats at once. The quick forward button next to media will also be removed.

The restriction on message forwarding is due to the cases of mob lynching that have been reported in India because of rumours triggered by fake messages on Whatsapp. The messaging service company published advertisements in the major newspapers of India to tackle the issue of fake news in India.

The company in their blog said that they have built Whatsapp as a private messaging app. The forwarding limit will be applied to everyone in the world.

"In India people forward more messages, photos and videos than any other country in the world", said Whatsapp.

Whatsapp in the statement said,"We built WhatsApp as a private messaging app - a simple, secure, and reliable way to communicate with friends and family. And as we've added new features, we've been careful to try and keep that feeling of intimacy, which people say they love."

On July 10, WhatsApp indicated which messages you receive have been forwarded to you.

Earlier on July 4, the government of India had asked WhatsApp to take immediate action to provide remedial measures to prevent the proliferation of fake messages and at times motivated and sensational messages on its platform.
