Twitter Announces Updated Privacy Policy And Terms Of Service

Twitter on Wednesday announced its updated Privacy Policy on Wednesday, in order to keep up the new regulatory guidelines on European data privacy laws that go into effect from May.

Users saw a message while launching the app informing them of the update. The company says that the new terms of service and privacy policy provide users even more transparency into the data Twitter collects or how it uses them. It also announces that the update will take effect on May 25, 2018. The EU guidelines too begin on the same day.

A statement from Twitter reads, “We believe you should always know what data we collect from you and how we use it, and that you should have meaningful control over both. As part of our ongoing commitment to transparency, and in preparation for new data protection laws that take effect next month, we’re updating our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy to empower you to make the best decisions about the information that you share with us.”

European Union’s latest privacy laws empower users with more control over their data, which allows them to learn about the information companies had on them and the way it was used. Users can also get the companies to delete their data or stop sharing them with third parties under the right to be forgotten.
