| January 2 , 2018 , 14:43 IST

There can be no denying the fact that 2017 was a stellar year for smartphones. With bezels, all packed up from the edges of the screen, dual camera setup became ubiquitous, stock androids made their way to mid-budget smartphones. Advanced features like facial recognition, artificial intelligence, machine learning augmented reality made their way out of science fiction books into reality.

Now, it is time to look ahead and see what 2018 has in store for us. Foldable display, even thinner bezel and better screen to body ratio, in screen fingerprint sensors and advanced artificial intelligence are some of the trends to look forward to this year. And along with the usual suspects Oneplus, Apple, Samsung, we have the comeback king Nokia vying for smartphone supremacy.

Here are Top 7 Smartphones to look forward to 2018.

Nokia 9

After a very long break, Nokia returned to the market with its new flagship in 2017, namely Nokia 3, Nokia 5, Nokia 6, Nokia 7 and Nokia 8. The Finnish company is expected to launch Nokia 9 flagship in the first half of 2018 (possibly January 19) alongside a 2018 refresh of the Nokia 6. Nokia 9 is a successor to Nokia 8.

OnePlus 6

Ever since the Oneplus 3, Oneplus has followed a six months upgrade cycle that has both angered & pleased its user base. Rumours claim that Oneplus 6, which is expected to launch in June 2018, will come with a fingerprint display embedded underneath the display. Something that Apple reportedly tried and failed in the iPhone X.

Samsung Galaxy S9

Samsung Galaxy S9 is expected to launch on February 25, 2018. Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus are set to be powered by QUALCOMM's upcoming 10nm based Snapdragon 845 chipset paired with 4GB of Ram in S9 and 6GB of Ram in S9 Plus. Both Smartphones are expected to come with 64GB internal storage which is still expandable via micro SD card.

Google Pixel 3

According to the usual timeline of Google, we can expect the third generation of Pixel smartphone to land in October 2018 and give the iPhone X (2018) run for its money. Not much is known about the next generation of Pixel device as of now apart from the fact that not two but three Pixel Smartphones are anticipated in2018.

Apple iPhone X (2018)

The iPhone X was easily the most hyped and anticipated smartphones of 2017. Even though the iPhone X was met with great reviews, it still feels like a first generation with quite a bit of room for improvement. As such, the second generation will probably iron out most of quirks. The lack of fingerprint sensor is the biggest drawback in iPhone X. After they failed, Apple ditched the concept of  Touch ID sensor in iPhone X. Finally, Apple is expected to achieve their goal of embedding the Touch ID sensor underneath the display .

Samsung Galaxy X

The Samsung Galaxy X is expected to come with a foldable OLED display. The Galaxy X has been in the pipeline for a long time. Samsung showed off a clunky, albeit working prototype way back in 2011 which remained intact even after 100,000 folds. In September 2017, Samsung's president of mobile, Koh Dong-Jin hinted that the company is planning to launch a Smartphone with foldable display in 2018.

Sony Xperia XZ2/XZ1 Premium

Sony is always very secretive about their work on new and upcoming smartphones. Infact, the name of these upcoming smartphones are also up in the air as of now. It could also be the case that Sony launches both two separate Smartphone. One thing is definitely sure that Sony is working on bezel less smartphone to compete with other flagships like iPhone X, Samsung Galaxy S9 etc.
