Telecom giants are working towards capturing the mobile market as well. After Jio and Idea, Airtel is also planning to launch its own 4G smartphone by Diwali with the minimum cost of Rs 2500.
With the launch of 4G feature phone, Airtel is planning to counter the JioPhone which will reach the markets, next month. Joining the bandwagon, Airtel has also decided to package the 4G device with Airtel data and voice calling benefits, supposedly.
As per latest reports, Bharti Airtel is already having words with the handset makers for manufacturing the smartphone which will be financed by the makers instead of Airtel. Hints were dropped about a local handset maker manufacturing the handsets. All the mobile applications from Google Play Store will be allowed to download.
A reliable source said, "Airtel is talking to some handset manufacturers to bring in a smartphone around Rs 2,500, which will have a bigger screen, better camera and better battery performance than what a feature phone could offer."
Reliance Jio announced the JioPhone, a 4G feature phone which will ultimately cost the users Rs 0. JioPhone is targeting the 500 million users who are still stuck at feature phones for not having enough resources.
Idea is also planning to launch the cheapest smartphone in India priced at Rs 2500. The phone will support dual SIM with options to choose between 2G and 3G network.
