Actress Preity Zinta is celebrating her 44th birthday on Thursday. Right from her first on-screen appearance, she has always wowed us with her cuteness quotient and power-packed performances.

With films like Veer Zaara, Kal Ho Naa Ho, Sangharsh, Dil Chahta Hai and Lakshya in her repertoire, the actress has given us enough reasons to fall in love with her.

Born on 31 January 1975 into a family from Rohru in Shimla district, Himachal Pradesh, Preity’s father, Durganand Zinta, was an officer in the Indian Army and died in a car accident when she was 13 years old.

The actress studied at the Convent of Jesus and Mary boarding school in Shimla and did her post-graduation in Criminal Psychology at St Bede's College in Shimla.

She did her Graduation in English honours and earned a postgraduate degree in Criminal Psychology.

Preity began her life in showbiz with advertisements for Liril and Perk. She made her Bollywood debut opposite Shah Rukh Khan in Mani Ratnam's film Dil Se in 1988.

Despite starring opposite big stars like SRK and Manisha Koirala, Preity's stole the show and won the Filmfare Award for Best Newcomer.

After portraying the female lead in two Telugu films titled ‘Premante Idera’ and ‘Raja Kumarudu’, the talented heroine shifted her focus towards Hindi cinema and established herself as one among the top heroines in the 2000s by playing both glamour and content-driven roles effectively.

The actress received her first Filmfare Best Actress Award for her performance in Karan Johar's Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003).

Preity is not only an outstanding actress but also a humanitarian who works for social welfare. On her 34th birthday, Preity Zinta adopted 34 girls from the Mother Miracle orphanage in Rishikesh and took the responsibility of financially supporting their education, food, and clothing.

Preity Zinta married Gene Goodenough in an extremely private ceremony in Los Angeles in February 2016. Gene is based out of US and works as Senior Vice-President for Finance at a hydroelectric power company.
