B'Day Special: Former Miss Universe, Lara Dutta's Unusual Journey To Fame

Lara Dutta has been crowned as one of the most beautiful women in the universe and she is known to be little different from a typical Bollywood actress. Not only is she blessed with looks and brains, Lara is one of the classiest ladies in showbiz. Lara Dutta turns 40 on Monday and that’s quite a challenge to believe. 

The model-turned-actress, is one of the few beauty queens who sashayed down the ramp and then straight into cine buffs’ hearts successfully. Lara's distinguished personality put her on the list of well-respected actresses of Bollywood.

Lara Dutta is the daughter of L.K. Dutta, a retired Wing Commander and Jennifer Dutta. She has two elder sisters – Sabrina and Cheryl. Lara moved to Bangalore along with her family in 1981 and completed her schooling there. She then pursued an Economics degree and a minor in communications from Mumbai University.

In 2000, Lara became the second Indian woman after Sushmita Sen to win the Miss Universe title. She made her Bollywood debut in 2003 with Andaaz with Priyanka Chopra and Akshay Kumar and won the Filmfare Best Female Debut Award for the film. The actress went on to do several entertaining films like No Entry (2005), Bhagam Bhag (2006), Partner (2007), Housefull (2010), Singh Is Bling (2015) among others. 

Lara Dutta married Indian Tennis legend Mahesh Bhupathi on February 16, 2011 in a civil ceremony in Mumbai. They both welcomed their daughter in January 2012. The beauty queen has not taken retirement from acting yet and has been enjoying the quiet life with her husband, Mahesh Bhupathi and 6-year-old daughter, Saira.

Lara was last seen in Fitoor and Azhar, which released in 2016 and in Welcome To New York this year in a brief appearance. However, she is back in the limelight through her latest gig on the small screen.

Lara is one of the judges on the popular dance reality show High Fever and she never fails to make fans look up and notice her – be it for her fashion game or for her expert comments on the performances.

The actress is said to have recently signed up for ‘No Entry’ sequel, titled ‘No Entry Mein Entry’. Reportedly, she is also planning a sequel to ‘Chalo Dilli’, titled ‘Chalo China’.
