India must showcase its 'Pakoda' model in Davos…

It was a lazy Friday evening; I was busy making forward plan of Saturday when I got a call from a colleague. He insisted that I tune in to India’s most Trusted channel (So called) which was airing PM Modi’s Interview.

I followed his advice and started watching a well-planned PR exercise.

To grab eyeballs, the channel was promoting it as “2018 की सबसे बड़ी ब्रेकिंग न्यूज़”, I was curious to know what that is. For the sake of my curiosity (unfortunate for me, I must admit), I ended up watching the full interview.
My head started to roll listening to one of the answers to a carefully positioned question from the editor.

The interviewer asked the PM “आपने 2014 में कहा था कि भारत में हर साल 1 करोड़ रोजगार के अवसर पैदा होंगे लेकिन मेरे पास श्रम मंत्रालय के आंकड़े हैं अभी तो सिर्फ 5 लाख रोजगार ही हर साल मिल पा रहे हैं” (You had in 2014 said that 10 million employment opportunities will be created in India. I have the figures from Ministry of Labour that says only 500 thousand people are getting jobs each year).

The PM first displayed his million-dollar smile and gave a long, detailed answer. The PM continued by elaborating his point addressing the anchor. He said “suppose someone is selling ‘pakoda’ outside your News channel and is earning 200 rupees a day. Would you consider it employment or not?”

The editor who played a key role in getting the chai-pakoda sellers outside his channel forcefully removed was left with a smile.

PM continued with his ‘Pakoda’ model and added that in India, about 100 million people are earning in the same way as that pakoda seller.

It came as a big surprise to me, for almost 3 years I was unaware of the fact that around 100 million people are enjoying their job and are providing employment to others as per the Pakoda model. I am sure no other country has the power to generate employment at this rate through this extraordinary model.

PM Modi did not stop at this. He mentioned another interesting fact saying these “Pakodawala’s” are moving the wheels of Economic model worth 4000 billion rupees.

Narendra Modi will be the first Indian Prime Minister to attend World Economic Forum in two decades. PM must have done preparations for the summit, he is a great orator.  I strongly believe that the PM should highlight India’s Pakoda model of employment in Davos irrespective of the fact that opposition and 12 billion unemployed youth are condemning him for sharing wrong figures.

I couldn’t help but think that the PM could constitute a separate ministry to track the performance and record of these pakoda stalls contributing to the Indian economy.

At last, I would just like to say that India is great, our Prime Minister is great and our pakoda model is super great. It should be acknowledged by the world and embraced with a big hug.
