Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday broke his silence on the Unnao rape case in which BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar has been accused of allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl.

Yogi said, "Investigation has been handed over to the CBI. I believe the CBI would have arrested the MLA also. Our government will not compromise on this, no matter how influential the accused is, he will not be spared."

Earlier on Friday, CBI picked up Sengar from his Lucknow residence for questioning after the probe was handed over to the CBI from the SIT.

The victim reportedly said, "I want strict action to be taken against him and he should be given severe punishment."

Sengar has been accused of rape, intimidation and assault and had a case lodged against him by the Unnao police on Thursday under sections 363, 366, 376 and 506 of Indian Penal Code pertaining to rape, abduction, and intimidation and provisions of POCSO Act.

The teen had accused the MLA of raping her in June last year.

The case came into the limelight after the victim tried to immolate herself on Sunday outside Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's residence, alleging police inaction against Sengar.

Previously the victim's father died in judicial custody almost a week after he was reportedly thrashed by the MLA's brother and others.

The case is gaining political attention widely because of the involvement of an MLA of the ruling party.
