Union Minister Nitin Gadkari known for keeping his cool lashed out at Indian Navy in a public event in the presence of Vice Admiral Girish Luthra, the Chief of western Naval Command.

Gadkari questioned the reason why all navy officers want to reside in posh south Mumbai and said, “Actually, Navy is needed at the borders from where terrorists sneak in. Why does everyone (in the Navy) want to stay in South Mumbai? They (Navy) had come to me, asking for a plot (of land). I will not give even an inch of land. Please don't come to me again.”

The Indian Navy had recently declined permission for building a floating jetty at Malabar Hill in South Mumbai. Miffed at this the Union Minister expressed his displeasure in Public.

"Everyone wants to build quarters and flats on south Mumbai's prime land. We do respect you (Navy), but you should go to the Pakistan border and do patrolling," Gadkari added.

Reacting to the Minister’s statement Congress Party’ official handle tweeted “BJP is the first to use the Armed Forces for electoral gains, but when it comes to benefits, their real intent comes to the fore.”

Congress’ Chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala tweeted “Shameful & Unacceptable! Ex BJP President & Union Minister, Nitin Gadkari insults ‘Indian Navy’, questions their valour and dedication. Pseudo-Nationalist BJP now wants to issue certificates of ‘loyalty’ to India’s armed forces.”
