A woman in Uttar Pradesh early on Sunday alleged that her husband, whom she accused of having an affair, gave her triple talaq as she had gone to attend a rally of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Her husband, on the other hand, said that he gave her a divorce and not triple talaq as she was having an affair.

The woman, identified as Fayra, claims that she went to attend PM Modi's rally as a mark of support to the government's plan to bring in a legislation to ban instant triple talaq, but when she came home she herself was given triple talaq. She claimed that her husband, Danish, had an affair with his aunt and even had a son with her.

"My husband had an affair with his aunt and even had a son with her. He kept telling me he’ll give me a divorce. When I came back from the rally he said PM Modi can’t do anything to harm him and gave me triple talaq. He beat up my child and me and threw us out of the house," Fayra was quoted as saying by ANI.

Danish had a completely different version to the incident, claiming that it was not a case of triple talaq and he decided to divorce Fayra because she was having an extra-marital affair. He added that the divorce had nothing to do with PM Modi's rally.

"I didn’t give her triple talaq. She had an extramarital affair, so I divorced her. Her uncle keeps threatening me. She always wore jeans and things like that. I don’t want to keep my wife with me. This has nothing with to do with Modi ji’s rally," Danish said.

Fayra said that since police did not pay heed to her complaint, she approached the sister of BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, Farhat Naqvi, who assured her of help.
