VIvek Tiwari Death Case: UP Police Suspends Around 8 Officers For Holding Protest For Accused Constable

The Uttar Pradesh Police on Friday removed three Station House Officers and suspended three constables for leading "Black Day" protest in support of their colleagues who allegedly shot dead an Apple executive Vivek Tiwari. The protests were held at three separate police stations of Lucknow on Friday.

According to media reports, the UP Police also arrested two former police officers Avinash Pathak and Brajendra Yadav were arrested in Mirzapur and Varanasi, respectively, also on Friday for inciting policemen and garnering support for Constable Prashant Choudhary, the prime accused in the Vivek Tiwari Death Case.

Pictures on the internet showed police personnel wearing black armbands in support of their colleagues who were arrested after Vivek Tiwari was shot dead when he refused to stop his car for checking.

According to SSP, Lucknow, Kalanidhi Naithani, the initial probe indicated the involvement of three constables -- Jitendra Kumar Verma, Aliganj police station, Sumit Kumar (Gudamba) and Gaurav Chaudhary of Naka police station - were suspended as they were held accountable for gross indiscipline.

The SSP also added that action against in-charges of three police stations -- Parshuram Singh (SHO Naka), Ajay Yadav (SHO Aliganj) and Dharmesh Shahi, SHO, Gudamba -- was also taken on account of indiscipline.

What Does The Post-Mortem Say?

The Post Mortem reports of Vivek Tiwari death case were released on Tuesday. The reports exposed all the lies of the UP Police as it confirmed that the victim was hit a point-blank range.

According to media reports, apart from the autopsies, other facts show that the police deliberately tried to cover up the incident. Tiwari’s wife Kalapana was not informed about her husband till 3 am in the morning.

Constable Prashant Chaudhary had in a statement to the press had said that he was forced to fire in self-defence. He also claimed that when he tried to stop Tiwari for routine checking, the latter tried to run him over and to damage his motorcycle.

What Happened?

Vivek Tiwari, a 38-year-old employee of a multinational company died after he was shot by a UP Police constable in Lucknow in the early hours of September 29 after he allegedly refused to stop his SUV during police checking. Admitted to the hospital, Tiwari succumbed to injuries sustained by the gunshot.

As protest arose over the use of guns in a seemingly minor infraction, the UP police registered a case against the 2 policemen and also announced the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to look into the incident.
