Veteran actor Moushumi Chatterjee joined BJP in presence of party National General Secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya on Wednesday.
According to media reports, the 70-year-old Bengali actor met with top BJP leaders in Delhi and went through a thorough conversation regarding this on Tuesday.
In 2004, Chatterjee had contested the Lok Sabha elections for the Congress from Kolkata North East constituency but lost to Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) candidate Mohammad Salim.
This is the second stint of Moushumi Chatterjee in active politics as she had last contested an election on Congress ticket in 2004.
Talking to national media, she showered praise on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. She has admired the confident and fighting mentality of CM Mamata Banerjee.
As per media sources, actress Moushumi Chatterjee might contest from Maharashtra or West Bengal constituency.

Chatterjee was born in Calcutta, her father Prantosh Chattopadhyaya was in the Indian Army and her grandfather was a judge. She is married to Jayant Mukherjee, son of famous playback singer Hemant Kumar.
They have two daughters, Payal and Megha. She started to act in Bollywood movies after her marriage, which was quite unusual for Indian women during that time.
Moushumi was last seen in Amitabh Bachchan starrer Piku in 2015. She has shared the screen with lead actors Shammi Kapoor, Rajesh Khanna and Jeetendra. Apart from Bollywood, she has acted in Bengali cinema in her career.
